Air Duct Cleaning in Palo Alto, CA

What a duct cleaning actually looks like in Palo Alto
The job starts with a walk of the system. We count supplies, find every return, and pull a register or two to look inside with a camera. Then the trunk gets opened and put under negative pressure. Each run is agitated from the far end back, whips or brushes, depending on whether it is sheet metal, ductboard or flex. The blower wheel and coil face get inspected, boots get resealed, and you see photos of the same spots before and after.
Older Professorville-era neighborhoods are mostly 1920s–40s Spanish, Craftsman and bungalow homes. Ducting runs through the crawlspace under raised foundations, sometimes with an attic system added decades later. That crawl soil stays damp. Liner mold spotting and rodent nesting show up there more than anywhere else in town.
South Palo Alto is different work. Large 1950s Eichler tracts, low rooflines, tight access, equipment squeezed into whatever space existed.
The street canopy matters too. Oak, redwood, sycamore and liquidambar drop heavy pollen and organic debris that loads returns each spring. Check your filter in April.
Deep remodels leave mixed-age runs in one system. Crushed flex or torn liner is a replacement conversation, not a cleaning one, we will say so.
Frequently Asked Questions
My house is a south Palo Alto Eichler with the ducts in the slab — can those even be cleaned?
Eichler radiant and ducted setups vary a lot depending on what's been done to the house since the 1950s. Some have in-slab runs, many have had a newer forced-air system added later with ducting routed through a furred-down ceiling or an added attic space. We look at the system before quoting anything, because in-slab runs need a different approach than flex duct in an attic, and in some cases aren't good candidates for cleaning at all. If that's the situation, we'll tell you rather than running equipment through it for no benefit.
We have an older home with ducting in the crawlspace. What usually turns up down there?
Two things, consistently. The first is moisture. Crawlspaces under raised foundations in Palo Alto stay damp, and duct liner or insulation sitting in that air for decades commonly shows mold spotting. The second is rodents. Crawlspace runs are an easy path, and we regularly find nesting material, droppings and chewed-through flex in the older Craftsman and Spanish-era homes near the Professorville side of town. Cleaning handles the debris; if a run is torn open or the liner is compromised, that's a repair conversation, not a cleaning one.

- 1
Call and tell us how many supply registers you have and where the furnace sits, attic or hall closet. We give you a two hour arrival window.
- 2
We pull a register, look inside the trunk line, and count the runs. Then you get a firm number, free, before a single hose comes off the truck.
